Graduate Profile of Bachelor of Arts Degree

  • At the completion of the Bachelor of Arts Degree Programme in the Faculty of Arts of the University of Jaffna, the graduates should be able to have a clear knowledge in the chosen subjects/ areas of disciplines  with the ability for creative, critical and analytical and problem-solving proficiencies and skills, be able to  engage in activities for continuing professional/ career advancement and be able to examine and  understand the full breadth of issues concerning social, cultural, environmental, regulatory and ethical  aspects associated in the area of their study.  

 

Graduate Attributes 

A Bachelor of Arts graduate of the University of Jaffna should be 

 

Academically excellent: 

• Having thorough knowledge in the chosen core subjects and possess the specific skills of the discipline  

• Able to apply numerical and analytical skills to gather and analyze data and information  scientifically, draw inferences and arrive at the conclusion, and 

• Having intellectual skills with the ability for creative, critical and analytical and problem solving skills  

 

Employable and able to contribute to national development: 

  • • Able to apply general and transferable skills;
      •     – ICT skills and the ability to use new technological and ICT tools,
      •     – Communication skills with trilingual proficiency (English, Tamil, and Sinhala),

Program Learning Outcomes (PLOs) of Bachelor of Arts Degree  

Program Learning Outcomes (PLOs) represent the expectations of the programme for its students  3 years after graduation in Bachelor of Arts Degree offered by the Faculty of Arts, University of  Jaffna. Graduates will be able to: 

PO 1: Collect, analyze and interpret qualitative and quantitative data; 

PO 2: Demonstrate problem-solving skills in the areas of study; 

PO 3: Develop arguments and make sound judgments in accordance with basic theories and  concepts of the areas of study; 

PO 4: Present information, ideas, and concepts efficiently and effectively;

PO 5: Apply knowledge and understanding of concepts and principles of the areas of study;

PO 6: Acquire new competencies that will enable them to assume major responsibilities;

Graduate Profile of BA (Hons) in Art History

On successful completion of the BA Honors in Art History, graduates should be able to have an independent critical engagement with visual art and visual culture, to theoretically situate changing concepts and approaches of art, read visual art within its wider socio-political context and develop the tools to communicate readings and research findings. They are expected to be able to examine and understand the full breadth of issues surrounding the social, and ethical concerns associated with the art world. Graduates will gain skills and experience that will prepare them for careers in art history, art education and heritage industry.

 

Specific Graduate Attributes

Graduates of BA (Hons) in Art History programme will possess the following attributes:

  • • Knowledge of major theories in Art History and their appropriate application.
  • • Awareness of the wider social and interpretative implications of art history and the ability to debate issues in relation to more general ethical perspectives.

PLO 4:    Develop an effective knowledge of visual vocabulary appropriate for careers in the visual studies, heritage industry and art pedagogy.
