Anuya Fernando is a second-generation Tamil German (from Sri Lanka). Her film employs the migrant’s memories and letters as a primary means of narrating the story and transmitting its feelings about the Sri Lankan Tamil migration to Germany in the 1980s. It witnessed the migration and its traumatic experiences from the background of oppression against Tamil minorities in Sri Lanka.  

10th Jaffna International Cinema Festival

The Fine Arts Department of the University of Jaffna collaborated as an academic partner with Agenda 14, the presenters of the 10th Jaffna International Film Festival, along with other partners from many respective international and local cultural and diplomatic missions and bodies. The students of the department volunteer to conduct the event and participate in the master classes conducted by the film personalities around the world. In these classes, the students of media studies actively participated and benefited.

This year, over 60 films from 18 countries, including 10 debut films, 16 national and 16 international short films, documentary films, and retrospective films, were shown. The lifetime achievement award received by the Kanada film genius Krish Kasravalli.
